The textbook optic (geometrical optics, Gauss optics…) allows the description of manifold applications of the optical components: transmitter, optical transmission link and receiver.

The requirements in the illumination technology are special.

In general diffuse, divergent light sources are used, so that the simple formulas of the geometrical optics meet their limit.

Such light sources can be described by suitable lamp models. When the rays from a light source are numerically edited via „Monte Carlo“-method, the irradiation situation for diffuse light sources can be described together with diverse optical components.

This numerical simulation method has a particular relevance in combination with a corresponding 3D interface, so that complete 3D situations can be simulated.
